Everything you want to know before you come in.
Answers to the questions we hear most often — about the studio, the practice, and what to expect. If you don't find what you're looking for, reach out directly and we'll be glad to help.
No prior experience is needed. We recommend beginning with our Introduction Private 3-Pack — three sessions designed specifically for new students that include a personalized assessment, individualized instruction, and a clear foundation before joining group classes. Most clients find this a far more comfortable and effective entry point than walking into a group class cold.
The Intro Private 3-Pack is three one-on-one sessions designed to help new clients assess, learn, and build a guided foundation for their Pilates practice. It includes a personalized movement assessment, individualized instruction that moves at your pace, and a clear starting point tailored to your body, history, and goals. Investment: $65.
Wear comfortable, close-fitting clothing you can move freely in. Avoid very loose pants or tops — the instructor needs to see your alignment and movement clearly. Grip socks are helpful for reformer work. Arrive a few minutes early so we have time to connect before your session begins. No special equipment is needed — we provide everything.
Pilates is often an excellent fit for people managing injury or chronic pain — when it is taught by a skilled instructor who understands how to modify and progress appropriately. We recommend starting with private sessions so we can assess your specific situation and build a programme around it. Please mention any injuries or medical history when you book so we can prepare accordingly.
Private sessions are one-on-one and fully tailored to your body, history, and goals. The instruction is specific to you in every detail. Group classes are small by design — so instruction remains specific and attentive even in a shared format. Most of our long-term clients do both: privates build the foundation, group classes provide the momentum and community of a shared practice.
Our group classes are deliberately small — typically four to six clients. This is intentional. We believe you should receive genuine attention and specific instruction regardless of the format. You will not be a number in a large class here.
Sessions and class reservations are managed through our MindBody booking system — accessible via the Reserve button at the top of every page. You can also reach us directly at studio@transformotionpilates.com or by calling 224-993-9890 and we will be glad to help you find the right option.
Consistency matters more than frequency. Two sessions per week is a strong starting point for most clients — enough to build momentum and feel genuine progress without overwhelming the body. One session per week can still be highly effective when the instruction is precise and the client is engaged. We will make a recommendation based on your goals and schedule when you come in.
We use Peak Pilates MVe Reformers and Cadillac Tower equipment — professional-grade apparatus used in certified Peak Pilates Education Centers. The precision, feel, and calibration of Peak Pilates equipment is part of the standard we hold the studio to. It is not incidental — it directly affects the quality of the movement experience.
Yes. Transformotion Pilates is a certified Peak Pilates Education Center — one of a select number in the country. This means our instructors are trained and certified through the Peak Pilates methodology, and we host Peak Pilates certification modules and continuing education workshops throughout the year. The designation reflects a standard of instruction that is independently recognised and rigorously maintained.

The new studio at 234 James St. is where that work continues, in a space designed to match the quality of the practice it houses.
Yes. We work with equestrians, golfers, tennis and pickleball players, runners, cyclists, and other athletes. Sport-specific sessions are built around the movement demands of your particular sport — addressing compensation patterns, building relevant stability, and translating directly to performance. This is not generic fitness with a sporting label. It is targeted, informed work grounded in 25 years of experience with athletes across disciplines.
Absolutely — and in many ways Pilates becomes more valuable, not less, as the body changes in midlife. It addresses the specific needs that shift in your 40s and beyond: joint health, muscle maintenance, mobility, core support, and recovery. When taught by an instructor who understands the physiological changes of midlife, Pilates is one of the most effective and sustainable movement practices available. It is never too late to begin.
Yes — and men often find Pilates one of the most challenging and rewarding forms of training they have encountered. The method addresses flexibility, stability, and body control in ways that complement strength training and sport. Several of our regular clients are men, including athletes and golfers who use Pilates as performance cross-training.
Yes. As a certified Peak Pilates Education Center, we host Peak Pilates Level 1 certification modules and continuing education workshops throughout the year.
